Working in the hospital I work in, and being the person that I am (an Innovator, positive deviant, leader, and complexity science advocate) the following quote described the current situation in my work life.
"Incompetent leadership has been the inability to tolerate or place trust in individuals who show initiative or who are in anyway unconventional'
This quote comes from an article entitled Chaos & Evolution in Nursing Research.
I will not go into details as I do not want the offending parties to be further ground or attacked, but my hope is that this quote reaches enough people that it will inspire others to look outside of their comfort zone to tap the collective wisdom of those individuals who are innovators, change agents, and altogether unconventional. The quote that goes well with this is,
"When an employee in a health care agency behaves "unpredictably" and is considered inappropriate or unreasonable, perhaps it is the administrations view of the system that is not appropriate!
As you lead and participate in change, keep these quotes in mind as they are the backbone to caring for the innovator and caring for innovation.
